What are some of the rewarding aspects of your occupation and career? I get to be creative; projects change from one to the next, which allows for new ideas, new challenges & new solutions; I get to make my own schedule
What would you consider as your greatest achievement in this occupation? I started my own business
What did you study for your undergraduate degree? Did it inform your choice of Interior Design as a career? I studied Communications and minored in Art History; No not at all
Why did you choose this career?
Interior Design is creative within boundaries; I'm a good visualizer; I've always loved to space plan & decorate, it is possible to work for myself
Why did you choose Drexel University’s Westphal College of Media Arts and Design over similar programs?
The program is rigorous and provides a very good preparation to the practice in the field; it is CIDA accredited; I was offered a GA position which helped to pay for my education; my family is local and I was able to live at my parent's house in order to save money
How did your time at Drexel University’s Westphal College of Media Arts and Design prepare you for your career?
The program is competitive and taught me perseverance, it also helped me with developing presentation skills and feeling more confident about presenting my work
Was our faculty helpful to you in making the transition to a career in interior design? Are you still in contact with them?
I graduated during a difficult time in the industry (2010) but the faculty was incredibly supportive and resourceful. Yes. I'm still in contact with faculty members, two in particular, whom offered excellent recommendations to all past employers
What advice would you give to someone considering returning to a Master’s program in interior design?
I highly recommend the Interior Architecture program at DU; it is rigorous and three years of graduate school is a huge (time and monetary) commitment but I love my career. I would do it all over again if given the opportunity
